AZ 2000 HPS Combi with ColdTemp Upgrade and short counterweight bar. Operates to −30 °C, fully CNC machined, autonomous Linux control, absolute encoders. Power supply and counterweights not included. Rugged foam-lined carton included.
Description
The AZ 2000 HPS Combi is the latest version of the AZ2000 series, based on GM2000 mechanics. It is a highly versatile altazimuth mount for scientific applications such as satellite tracking, photometric and astrometric measurements, LiDaR and more. Due to its alt-az configuration, astrophotography requires a field de-rotator (we recommend PlaneWave IR90 or Optec Gemini) to avoid field rotation and maintain 10Micron tracking precision.
The standard version supports single-optic mounting on one side and includes a short counterweight bar. Full counterbalance is not needed: using counterweights equal to ~50 % of your payload provides a stable setup. Dual telescope upgrade kit (#1452905) is available as an option.
The original AZ2000 was also produced in an “Antarctica” version for Koldewey Station (Ny-Ålesund, Spitsbergen), operating down to −84 °C, with highly specialized materials, wiring, connectors and sealed housings.
ColdTemp Upgrade (included)
This non-retrofittable factory-only upgrade extends the operating range to −30 °C (components to −40 °C). It includes:
• Ultra-low-temp grease (down to −60 °C) for worm and bearings
• Thermally compensated pre-tensioned springs
• Integrated Linux PC with survival pack (−40 °C certified)
• Rewired internals with silicone-clad low-temp copper alloy cables
• Modified absolute encoders for −40 °C continuous operation
• Several days of cold chamber testing
Note: Wi-Fi is not available with ColdTemp package.
